Anyone hear about this gunmaker?

Just saw this site doing a web search http://www.alfred-schilling.de/ and they seem to have some brilliant rifles including bolt actions and falling blocks.

Good hunting and thanks for the replies in advance.

i do not recognize the "alfred" part.

there was a very famous V. Chr. Schilling in Suhl, Germany. i have one of his cape guns, so marked. very high quality maker.

i would be extra careful to distinguish between that Schilling and Alfred Schilling re any references you get from forum posters. you might ask alfred schilling if there is any connection w/ V. Chr.

good luck

At the SCI convention in Reno this year I saw fliers with some examples of his work in the Leupold booth. Exceptional work it looked like to me. What stuck out in my mind was the color case hardening done on the bolt rifles. Truly unbileaveable, the most unique and beautiful colors I have ever seen with this process. I would like to know what makes the colors so different and why does no other manufacturer try to capture these colors. Doug Turnbull does the most wonderful coloring I have seen....that is until I saw the rifles this firm makes..... not even in the same league.

mngane,

Don't the rifles look spectacular? They even case harden Schmidt und Bender scopes to match them to the rifles. From what I seem to understand they also finish rifles for other gunmakers in Germany. It would be interesting to see what they put out in the future.

Veerrrrryyy innnnteresting! That's a Kettner falling block, reknowned for it's incredibly fast lock time. Combined with the double set triggers, you've got a hunting rifle that shoots like an Olympic target model. And it's gorgeous, too. Phew, what a thing to chase chamois with!
