Has anybody ever bought an old Holland and had a key with the case?

I know I haven't! Can't work out why not.

I will be interested in seeing what you end up with. Also would like to see progress pictures of the case restoration if you wouldn't mind.

Cheers, Chris

Only bought one old case with keys and they don't work anyway.

I guess that is why these cases came with straps, when the boozed up owners lost the guncase keys.

Any good locksmith should be able to impression a key for these old warded locks.

Maybe if you looked up "key" and "Brady case" as search terms, you might find someone with blanks. My Rigby case comes with 2 thoughtfully tied to a piece of cord. Originally owned by a medical doctor, perhaps a careful one! They don't look too difficult to cut. In fact, a file would probably do it. H&H cases were a little more elaborate than most. Why not ask H&H in London if they have key-blanks? I found the guys there very obliging.

Thanks for yours comment, suitable blanks are quite easy to find. I have made two keys for other cases over the years but seems that H&H lock is a litte difficultier "animal" so I rejected the idea of new key.

My Alexander Henry hammerless .450BPE came in its original case with the key present.

But the original question pertains to keys for an original H&H gun case. I do happen to have an original case complete with its keys. My .303 H&H hammer double rifle from 1901. http://forums.nitroexpress.com/showflat....0&fpart=all

Here are the keys:

Hey Nitro, what was that you were saying about "boozed up owners"?

Igorrock, that is some great work. How did you transfer the labels? Also, did you renovate the exterior of the case and the straps?

CptCurl, you are showing off some splendid weapons sir.

Cheers, Chris

Yes, I did "full monty" i.e. fixing for in and outside, new straps and new attacments for handle piece and new leather corners for case lid. Labels are attached with hide glue so they are quite easy to transfer.
