Newly finished Stutzen on Original Mauser Kurz action
      #274332 - 01/12/15 05:14 AM

Stocked to the muzzle rifle, known as "Stutzen", built on a rare commercial 98' Original Mauser Kurz action produced in Oberndorf circa 1930.
Lothar Walther 21'' barrel, chambered for the .243 Winchester, fitted with Mauser type front and rear sights.
Handmade specifically designed narrow claw mount for an Austrian made Swarovski 3-9×36 R4A Z3 scope.
Classic styled stock of well-seasoned French walnut, blending a Schönauer styled full length forend to the typical D&D stock with its elongated grip, straight comb and beaded oval cheekpiece.
The full action, the scope rings and the furniture finely engraved in subdued English scrolls.
All metal parts are blued, excepted the bone and charcoal color casehardened fittings and the nitre blued extractor blade and bolt stop.
We will appreciate your comments.

Regards to all.

Stunning, with super tasteful engraving. All the proportions look perfect and the overall finish is magnificent. It doesn't get much better.

Like the look of the elongated grip and the engraving is superb.

Impeccable executed. Very nice engraving.
The bottom metal (beside the straddle type floor plate) seems not out of Oberndorf production.

Who is the maker ?

As usual everything is superb. I would like to have the rifle chambered in 6CX, 708 or 308win instead of 243 win. Joëls threads on NE are like Playboy magazines for gun nuts...bring it on.

Another beautiful example of firearms art and craftsmanship from D&D.

Beautiful rifle.I think Dorleac rifles are among the most beautiful rifles produced today. They just do not need any embellishments. Their clean, elegant minimalist form is their beauty.

I would be proud to own one.

Question: Did the Mauser commercial actions also come with the "thumb-cut" feature? Thank you.

Vikram,
Until the last production run circa 1938/1940, the commercial actions produced in Oberndorf by Mauser Werke – standard, magnum, intermediate and kurz- came with thumb cut.
After that date some actions were produced with a solid wall configuration but the majority retain the thumb cut.
We have encountered the solid wall action in standard and intermediate length but to date none of the kurz pattern.
The above rifle has been built on a 1930 made commercial K action, indeed with thumb cut.

Best.

Stunning indeed!!!!

I think the project deserved a chambering ....other than the rather boring, but intirely practical 243Win.

Thank you for allowing us to look.

Best

Another completed D&D Stutzen in 7x64 build on a 1902 Oberndorf made action.
This one has been treated in a modernised early classic style.

Best.

Another masterpiece. I particularly like the detail from the line of the wrist through to the start of the barrel and how the raised panels taper right to the muzzle.
