Hunting in Australia
      #270267 - 10/09/15 07:06 AM

One of my best friends is checking into coming down there to hunt buffalo. He was told even if he uses one of the guides guns he still has to show he has taken Hunter Safety. Is that true? And if so, how in the hell did that happen???

He is 52 years old and has hunted since he was 12 years old..in addition to going on 4-6 exotic hunts around the world every year..seems a bit over the top..

Not true in the NT anyway. If he is using the guides gun he should get an international visitors permit. They ask for a copy of your licence/permit if one is required in your home country. If not a police clearance from your home country is needed. I have the form here but don't know how to post it. Happy to email you one if you want to have a look.

Never heard of that before.

Who told him that?

Who is the "guide"?

Not sure..I will find out and advise..

He was told it however by both the guide and booking agent..so apparently there is some serious misinformation going on out there..

Sounds like someone is trying to make a few extra dollars by offering a "Hunter Safety Course". I would be suspicious of that guide and the agent.

Exactly Ripp, in my experience. Took 3 minutes and the lady who did it was very good looking. A bonus ! As I have said here before, leaving was odd. I went through customs and told the bloke I had a rifle in the aluminium case. "OK", he said. "Donīt you want to check it and the serial" I asked ?? "No, thats OK mate" !!!??? Fine I thought and sauntered through. For all the Ozzie govt knows, that .470 double could still be there. Odd but there you have it. best

And if you do go down there Ripp ENSURE you get 5-7 days fishing in. I went to this place, http://www.barralodge.com.au/ My guide was Lenny, a real card and it was the best 5 days mixed fishing (and eating) I have ever had. The great thing is apart from dinner on the night you arrive you donīt have to pay for food since you eat what you catch, and there is plenty. Mind you our wine bill was a bit naughty !
