Lee Speed 375 FL NE 2.5"
      #269659 - 26/08/15 04:37 PM

A friend of mine has just purchased a Lee Speed .375 FL NE 2.5" and I thought that I would share some photos of it on here.

And no, he doesn't want to sell it!

I think you probably need to borrow it from him for a couple of years to use as a pattern. If you get the oportunity, see what mods were made to the mag and rails to make the straight case feed.

That checkering pattern is unusual for a Lee Speed.

Definitely a treasure to find one and in such great condition.
Have you got some more detail on the differences that allow it to feed the 375 cartridges

VonGruff, your post prompted me to take a look at my own 303 Lee Speed and my guess is that the .375s would feed just fine.
The ramp is quite steep in my gun but it looks like the carrier will angle the tips of the cartridges up enough that feeding is kept quite smooth.
The rounded nose bullets of the day would most likely feed quite smoothly too from the same magazine but I would be interested in seeing if the follower is any different in the .375 as opposed to the 303. I would think that a follower that pushes the front end of the cartridge up would help in feeding.

It was the width at the front of the mag that I was thinking of with the bullet and case dia as more of a limiting factor than the angle of entry. Looking at the mag in Bidgee's posts it seems to be a shorter than standard 10 shot but longer than the 5 shot Lee Speed mag so wondered if it was a special mag for the 375 cartridge that was wider in the front..

For what it is worth, a .38-55 round will not feed through the "guide ears" at the front of two Enfield magazines I have, but certainly would with a bit of file work.

Bill that would be a SMLE mag I assume, I don't think any 375's were build on that action type all on the MLM MLE Long Tom action & mag set up, quite different ?

I have a 375Ex & 2 mags + a 8mm Lee Speed, but not with me right now, I must go get the 375Ex to check the mag for you guys, but from memory looks the same to me other than being shorter & squared off, same ever where else.... I think !

What a handsome rifle!

I thought the magazine looks a little deeper than the standard 5 or 6 round magazine. Has it been inserted into the magazine well fully?

Would you not listen to some one who has more then one of them & stated such in a post before yours ?

If he stated it was shorter the normal would you not think shorter than the 10 shot mag ?

A lot of the BSA/Lee Speed sporters had 10rd mags, around a third of mine have them, I differentiate between the Lee Speed-BSA sporter & the later plain stocked nonengraved BSA sporter which mostly has the 10 shot mag but again a few came or had fitted the shorter mag, hard to tell if these are factory as no engraving on this later model, having said that one of mine was, it was missing the fore wood so I don't know what type it had unfortunately.
