Marlin Perkins and Wild Kingdom
      #269373 - 18/08/15 01:07 PM

Did anyone else watch this program as a kid?

Africa owes a lot to Marlin and Jim, and I realized that when I came across this quote tonight.

Anyone who ever watched the show will understand what it means.

I only wish that I was creative enough to think of this on my own.

"While Jim is milking the boar, I'm very comfortable in the shade of a Baobab tree enjoying a cool drink while being serviced by a beautiful young indigenous girl. "

- Marlin Perkins

Yes - a favourite of mine, along with the Disney movies and shows. I used to 'shoot' the animals with an air rifle (unloaded, of course), "pow", "pow"!

Did the same, although one time, my Red Ryder was loaded and I shot Kung Fu.
I hid under the kitchen table scared of what my dad was going to do but when he got home he was surprisingly pleased that there would be no more TV in the house for a while!
To this day, I contend that my brother secretly loaded it just to get me in trouble!

The Wild Kingdom set is available on dvd.

"Welcome to Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom"

Loved it..........especially when things got a bit tough and old Marlin used to send big Jim in to "scruff" something.

What was the zoo that they were catching for?

I remember going to my grandfathers house to watch it. He had a color tv!
Always got a kick out of the sticky situations when Marlin would be back at the vehicle while Jim had to go in and "poke the lion with a stick".

Marlin Perkins was once curator of reptiles at the St. Louis Zoo, and as such was bitten by a Gabon viper. He was immediately given hemotoxic antivenin, which had no effect. He was then given neurotoxic antivenin, which saved his life. This was the first indication that Gabon viper venom is both hemotoxic and neurotoxic.

I don't know or remember if I ever saw these TV programmes. Pity from the sounds of it, but possibly I have forgotten as "wild kingdom" does have a small remembrance to it, but not Martin Perkins,

Did I, every chance I could, a great program that would be a good repeat in the off season.

"Oldtimers" again, I did have some recollection of "Wild Kingdom" but nothing of Martin Perkins. I do remember the face however. Must have been five or something when I saw some of those programmes.

Thanks for the link.
