Wanted - Photos of Engraving

After dilly-dallying around for too long I've decided to jump in and buy a double rifle. I'm looking for some samples of engraving patterns...seen the Krieghoff and Blaser catalogs....for ideas. I'm thinking the motif will be European animals ...boar, red deer and maybe moose.

Any web-sites you can direct me to or any pics of your own you could share?

Brownings European catalogues contain some beautiful examples of engraving on B25 shotgun models - they also used to produce a pamphlet on available styles of engraving - perhaps they still do. It`s also worth looking at the H&H, Purdey, Boss, Lebeau Courally, Bretton Gaucher, FAMARS di Abbiatico & Salvinelli, etc. websites.

DBBill,

Christopher Austyn has an authoritative book on British engraving styles and Tom Turpin has a nice book on US engravers. I have also seen Mario Abbiatico's book (please correct me if my spelling is wrong as I don't know Italian and am typing from memory from many years ago) "Grand Incisioni su Armi di Oggi" though from what I know only one edition was brought out and it is now a highly sought after collectible.

You could also do Google searches for the great names in engraving like Harry Kell, Winston Churchill, Raschid El Hadi, Manrico Torcoli, Rachel Wells etc .
