At what time and for what reason did the script on Mauser actions change from Waffenfabrik Mauser Oberndorf to Mauser Werke Oberndorf ?
Bonus question. Were Original Oberndorf Sporters always marked Waffenfabrik, or did they also change to Mauser Werke script ?

The Mauser firm changed it's name from Waffenfabrik Mauser A.-G. to Mauser-Werke A.-G. on May30 1922.
This name change was apparently due to the items the Mauser firm were producing after WW1 due to restrictions on military arms production. Such items as industrial sewing machines, measuring tools, calculating machines and even a couple of cars were made by Mauser.
Mauser Sporting rifles were marked with both scripts depending on when they were produced.

You didn't really ask but some Oberndorfs had no script at all anywhere.
These had a serial (date) number on the back of the mag. box and behind
the recoil lug. My action was produced in 1912 and the gun pre 1914.

The script on Mauser sporting rifles did not change immediately in 1922. Apparently there were many already marked parts still in stock afterwards. May own B 8x60 rifle # 1044xx on a standard length square bridge receiver,datable 1930 - 31, is still marked "Waffenfabrik Mauser" on the receiver,but "Mauser Werke A.G." on the barrel rib.

Yes my book of knowledge says that "most" Mauser Sporters produced by Mauser were marked with either of the two Mauser name scripts but many others made for supply to other firms had nothing other than a serial number under the action.
