Thomas

Thanks for the mention of Kings book, I have Dallas's book and it is good but I will get "The Shooting Field". I would like to think that Lady Brocklehurst was one hell of a hunter and it was her rifle but you are probably right it was probably bought for the Lord or his guests.

MS

Yes this will have to serve as my "trophy mistress", the other kind are even more expensive.

The above site has a photo of a Lady Brocklehurst that will not load. You may contact them for more information. The site below details the history of a bunch of the members of the family and there is reference to a "Lady Brocklehurst" and her husband "Sir Philip Lancaster Brocklehurst". Their son, apparently died in WWII.

P.S. Nice rifle (understatement of the century).

P.P.S. YOU ARE IN LUCK! Someone has apparently done a lot of this legowrk for you. Check out this link!

CFA,

Hey, Henry just called and he wants great grandfather's rifle back! Actually, by the looks of things, I think he is fortunate enough to have his hands full with other matters.

Best,

JohnTheGreek

John,

I sure am glad that picture didn't show up under my original post, might have given the wrong impression. . I wish.

Thanks for the links, I did find Lady Brocklehursts picture in the link but it wouldn't enlarge like most of the others. Some were rather nice eh! This will certainly get me started, hopefully the current Brocklehurst can give me some information. I will post if I find any good facts.

CFA,

Do keep us all up to date on your progress! As for the photo, I think it proves once again that there is no better opening line than "Would you like to come back to my castle for a drink"?

Best,

JohnTheGreek

It is good to see you on the forum. Lawrence has sold Elk City Adventures to some new people, they are very nice. I will be going through SLC in June on my way to hunt with them, will you be there then?

CSA's mistress is a supple, sleek, Lady.
She is slim and trim, built for speed. Her stock is pretty, no excess wood [cheekpiece], extended top tang for strength, slim action, splinter fore end, your fingers wrap around the bbls, the rifle sitting low in your hands.
The triggers are crisp, the front one is checkered, the rear smooth..... A fine double rifle by any ones standard

Next range session will consist of 20 rounds of the perfected Woodleigh Soft load, at 25, 50, and 100 yards.
Also I will begin load development of the Woodleigh Solids, as CFA's Mistress will be his Elephant slayer.
He will use her for deer and wild pigs, to give her a taste of the hunt, but she knows her true future lies in the quest of Elephant.
She will be ready.

CFA,

My that is a beautiful rifle. Have you had a chance to shoot it yet? After hearing about your plans, I can't wait to hear every detail as they unfold.

Take Care,

-Steve

P.S. Lisa says hi!

Man, I wish I was going to be there. Unfortunately, I am going to miss bear camp while teaching an abbreviated summer semester here. I would certainly head up there with you if I were in the country. You'll have to let me know how it goes with the new owners. I got the impression from Lawrence that he was going to be sort of running the operation for at least this year until they got their feet wet.

Best,

JohnTheGreek

Hello Steve,

Good to hear from you and tell Lisa hello. Yes I finally got around to posting pictures of "My Lady". You might have noticed earlier on the thread the original purchaser was Lady Brocklehurst in England. Seems her son, Lt. Col. Henry Courtney Brocklehurst commanding the 10th Royal Hussars in Burma, was a noted explorer and big game hunter. So probably it was purchased for him. Thats as much history as I have for the present.
