Mauser Kurz Match Rifle
      #266494 - 16/06/15 12:41 AM

An interesting 8.15x46R match rifle built on a special single shot kurz action.
Notice that the stock was initially made to fit a standard length action and compare the whole rifle with the one illustrated page 178 of Jon Speed "Original Oberndorf Sporting Rifles" book.
No markings, no serial number, only B and U proof marks.

Interesting question.

Fascinating how they placed the barreled action in a standard length stock and made it work.

So, I assume the diopter rear sight is used in conjunction with (at the same time) the elevator rear sight?

Thanks for sharing and the great photography, M. Dorleac!

With no magazine, don't they pretty-much have to be push-feed?

The 8.15x46R is a rimmed cartridge and indeed with a single shot monobloc receiver the bolt works push feed.
Notice the extractor nose shape and the recessed bolt face enclosing the case head.

That one would make a good match rifle, Northman - stiffer action without the mag hole.

Ernie Stapelton, the gun smith, now passed away, whom many of us here in BC used as an accuracy smith, did a good job stiffening up 98 Mauser actions for match shooting. He did this by welding in a plate to fill the mag well, converting them to single shot, with a grooved floor for feeding, still controlled feed - or push fed - didn't matter with standard cases. These actions for prone as well as 3-po competition.

They worked well indeed - one he did for me, a VZ chambered in .22 BR was an example of one, giving me 3/8", 10 shot bench groups at 100 meters.

A action, just like mine, was used to win the US national 1000 yard at Camp Perry in 2006 .. I belive prone with sling? It shows what accuracy could be obtained with these...
