Good idea or heresy?

Have the reamer and already load for it in a pistol.

270gr at 2200fps from a rifle.

Thoughts?

In a Searcy or old California Rigby maybe as they committed Heresy on a daily bases !

I think the 375Ex 2 1/2in is more in keeping with DR, as length is no concern, I know you have the reamer & if you are doing the work & on a American double SXS shot gun that would be more in keeping to the theme .

Like the cartridge but sort of cringed when I thought about using it just because.

Watch the twist rate though if chambering the low velocity .375s in a double or single-shot. Long bullets like the Hornady spire-point will lose stability past 50 yds and key-hole by 100yds when fired from most barrels rifled for the H&H cartridge, dunno about those intended for Winchester's Big Bore. Best to stick to the lighter (ie shorter and faster) bullets, and short RNs rather than long spitzers.

The .375 JDJ is a great chambering for a cheap Lee Enfield sporter conversion though! Its about as much grunt as you can get out of a 'Smelly', and will feed 5 rounds from the original staggered box magazine. Mine likes the stubby 250gr Sierra spitzer a lot!

Now that is interesting. I do have one downstairs and it seems as if it is an easy enough conversion but around here the prices on them has gone up substantially. Still might consider it though. I also have a Siamese mauser but it is in condition too good to fool with.

My other .375JDJ is in a 14" top end for a 1911. Lots of recoil out of that frame but good for about an inch at 100 with a 270 at 1650. Could shoot it hotter but that is more than enough for what I do with it.
Think that 12" twist would be adequate?
If I do go with a double, instead of making an entirely new gun, I may just make a second set of barrels for my Sabatti 45-70 that has the correct frame size to start with.

I copied Marrakai's idea a while back, and built a 375 jdj on a Lee Enfield no1 mk3 action. Mine liked 250 gr gamekings in particular. I sold it a few years ago, it was a fun rifle, one I should have kept..... Like many others.

For a State's Side hunting gun, I really like the idea, Tom. It could be made very light - like a 12 bore shotgun - easy shooter at 8 pounds or so.

It would probably do for most plains game (within reasonable ranges) in Africa as well.

I'd regulate for the 220gr.Hornady FN for US and Canada, 2,200fps to 2,400fps. Heavier bullets for elsewhere. Pressures would be quite low, I think as the .375 Win. loaded to the nuts did 2,200fps with most powders and 2,400fps with AA 1680, but my Winch. did not like that one. I used 220gr. FN on 2 moose - H335 and 1,940fps MV. A very efficient killer it was. No tracking - DRT.
