The 600/577 rewa brings back in mind the 20/577 henry. I think this is the most interesting rebarrel work you can make with the Greener Police Gun action. Brass will be the most cheap of any express cartridge caseswhen I take it from russia. The Tula 20ga 2 ¾” will be an fine basic brass http://tcwammo.tula.ru/koi/english/patrons.html
What I looking for some years now are chamber measurments from a original gun and the neck diameter and length of old cartridges, who can help.
The most expensive part of such a work will be a new reamer for the chamber. So its a good idea to find a gunsmith in britain with an old reamer. What was the end of A.Henry , is there a successor? I see a oval bore dr from lancester on the Griffin & Howe website. Maybe other firms can have also an old reamer for the this chamber.
BTW I think 12000$ for a BPE gun on the Griffin &Howe website is a little bit to much

pwm,

I think most of the Scottish names, Dickson, MacNaughton, Harkom, Daniel Fraser, Alex Henry etc are owned by http://www.gunandline.com/content.asp?ArticleCode=560 though they do not make guns under all the names that they own. www.internetgunclub.com has a lot of data on the old names including several incarnations of the Alex Henry firm - it also talks about an Alex Henry Ltd which it says is in the UK but gives no address or data - and I'll try to post there and find out.

I agree with you that any revival of a grand old round should be extremely interesting and thanks for this suggestion.

Good hunting!

pwm:
Flemming will have the measurements from a (large) number of old cartridges. I can post them here if you don't have access to his book. A colleague, Frank F. in the US, has original loading dies I believe. Remind us again where you live, pwm? Why not update your profile to show country of residence...

This variant of the .577 Express is a good cartridge, but you should be aware that the Greener Police Gun was proved for a service load of about 3 1/2 tons, and this cartridge has a mean service pressure of 10 tons. The Martini action is strong, BUT.....
The 20/.577 cartridge has a relatively large head area, so back-thrust will be fairly stout. You may be better with a standard Martini or Martini-Enfield action, as it has significantly more 'meat' behind the breech-block than the GP or Police Gun.

Hope this helps
