Me & my Blaser K95 Luxus - .25-06Rem. Kipplaufbusch.
      #265055 - 17/05/15 07:03 AM

I bought this rifle new in 2003 and it's been my 'go to' deer stalking rifle ever since.
Superbly lightweight, excellent balance and absolutely accurate.

Thanks Ash.
Although there are some stags shown (quite decent ones) I'm actually not a trophy hunter. Most of the deer I shoot are hinds/doe's and with my friends, we share a fair sized piece of land to 'manage' deer on. In addition, for the last twelve years or so though, we buy a week in Scotland on commercial estates at the end of November/early December shooting hinds.
It gets pretty cold and snowy in the hills at that time of year, but is magnificent sport.

Great looking K95. Probably one of the finest stalking rifles on the planet. I love my stutzen version.

Thanks mchughcb, I appreciate your thoughts & see you posting often on the SD forums.
I've had my K95 for quite a few years now and stutzens weren't made back then. Had they been, I guess I'd have bought one...but no matter, I'd never part with my rifle nor relegate it to a 'No: 2' spot. It's been such a delight to own and use & I've no doubt yours will be too.
Cheers, deeangeo

Ive used both. They are great rifles but if you want another barrel it is more expensive because of the extra wood and you need it to match. Maybe one day ill get a nice little 5.6x50R for small game.

Ha...I recently bought a Mannlicher Schoenauer M1903 Takedown via an SD member to fit the 'spare' rifle bill.
It's a 1922 model that's never been scoped, so my current project is to scope it.
You'll see it in these forum pages under the Mannlicher header.

Doing this will still be less expensive than a new K95 barrel & more fun.
Cheers, deeangeo

I regret ever saying this....it is costing at least as much as a new K95 barrel, is not yet completed and likely will cost as much as having an Octagonal K95 barrel. Nuts really, but that's the MSch bug for you LOL

I bet you had a lot more fun building up that Mannlicher than you would have buying a K95 Barrel.

Sort of Waidmannsheil, it's not yet completed. Certainly cleaning up the rifle - a total dismantle job prior to getting a renowned gunsmith to fit the appropriate mounts. The rifle is still away. While all the metalwork has been done and the parts polished for reblacking/blueing, the chap who has been selected and the rifle sent to, well, unfortunately he's just had a stroke before Christmas, so we're waiting to see if the rifle stays with him or withdrawn to another chappie.
Hey ho...that's life. My season is done now until September anyway, so I have time.

Do you ever try this combo on wild boar?

These K95 Blaser rifles are simply amazing for accuracy 1st with light weight a close second. I was at the range with mine last summer and someone ventured up with some wisecracks and a closer look at this guy making noise with a "break action pellet gun"....... Then they saw the target and their jaw dropped!!! Ragged hole at 100 yards....... Simply amazing!!

Mine is wearing a .270 win barrel....... Does anybody have any shooting time with a K95 in 9.3x74R? How is the recoil?

Personally I can only comment on my own K95 with .25-06Rem. Never used it on boar, but guess with a substantial bullet & correct placement it would do just fine.

I have shot many reds both sexes, sika, fallow, roe, chinese water deer, muntjac, fox & feral goat. Only ever had one slight failure on a big red stag last October in the rut. Right on dark when he appeared, took the shot, muzzle flash blinded me & I never saw what happened. Searched for six hours with friend and didn't find any trace of anything, so presumed I must have somehow missed.

Around six weeks later the carcass was found around six hundred yard away at the opposite far edge of a tree line. One antler broken both chewed. The bullet had taken a crossing path from left hand front shoulder exiting rib cage.
There was nothing left of internal organs to determine what damage had been done to them. All eaten by fox/crows/etc. etc.
The bullet was a 100gn Sierra prohunter. I have no idea why/how the stag ran so far, but guess the bullet either just wasn't man enough or the shot placement wasn't quite right.. Should have used the Nosler 110gn AB but I'd forgotten to bring them on the trip.

In my humble experience, Sierras are very soft. They are wonderfully consistent and have been marvelously accurate in everything I have tried them in....... My first whitetail deer 30 years ago succumbed to a Sierra gameking..... 200 pounds dressed weight....... broadside shot, 75 yards, obliterated heart/ lungs, lots of blood shot tissue, full separation of jacket and totally fragmented core..... And the deer took two steps and expired.....
