Fired the full Lott
      #26501 - 18/02/05 11:18 AM

Had the experience of firing my CZ 550 American Safari with the full Lott cartridge today. I'd fired it before using a .458 Winmag but, never the Lott.

I put two winmags (to get my shoulder ready) and two Lotts through the rifle in about 5 minutes time. Results are that yes, there is a lot of recoil but, it's not unmanageable. It is much more than the .375 H&H I'm used to shooting and I will say that it is certainly the fastest recoil I've ever felt but, it's not too bad. No bloody nose, no broken bones and no bruising. It's not such a scary thing at all.

I will say though that with the Lott I have probably reached the limit my body can consistantly take. I'm not a large person, just average, and in my 30's. I don't think I have the desire, at least at this time, to push into the 50 cal's. I take my hats off to you guys who can handle them.

I'm happy with my Lott.

Thanks to everyone for their help in the past.

-Vlad

Vladmir, You might try adding a recoil reducer (mercury) to both the buttstock and a small one in the forend (mostly for balance) This will knock the edge off and make it much more tolerable. Today's stock design's are pretty much a scope only option so the combs are too high and the stocks are straight. I had to have the stock on my Lott reshaped and it turned out fantastic, dropping the stock low enough so the recoil is deverted more upwards than straight back and much better for open sight use...450Dakota

Csutton7,

Per your question - I used Hornady 500 grain RN in both the WinMag and Lott. They were all I could get from my local supplier. Due to cost of the factory stuff, I'll likely start learning to reload my own this summer.

On your rifles, what kind do you have? My Lott is a CZ and my .375 is a Browning. Love them both.

v

Do a search on recoil reducers. I believe 500Grains has posted a link on what may be the slimmest ones I've ever seen. If I'm not having a brainfart, I think they were Break-O's.

Vlad--I have a Savage 458 mag(muzzle braked) and in CZ's I have 375 in a McMillan glass bedded stock, 416 rigby(on order) and a 458 Lott---the lott has the extra crossbolt, mercury reducers, pachmayer pad, glass bedded and a muzzle brake---I've most of the stuff for reloading(crimp dies and trimmers are needed), but I am waiting for a couple of more components before I can load the Rigby----chris
