And mine - a model 1876 Carbine, altered and re-chambered to .450 Alaskan for BP and Nitro for Black loads. The model of 1876 had a .457" groove diameter, with a .436" bore. After 40 polishing fire lapping rounds, the bore is .437" and the groove diameter is .458". Now, the bore shines, whereas- prior it looked like a sewer pipe.

Is that take down a shotgun? Really cool.

I like how yours looks too, a nice handy moose gun.

couldn't be more pleased. --- John

The top 4 pictures are John's. I uploaded them to post - some time ago on another M71 thread.

Since they were still in my photobucket account, I re-posted them here.

Now something like that would make a nice 45/70 black powder or smokeless (trapdoor loads) rifle.Frank

The take-down is quite simple, there is an end plate on both the fore-end and butt each held by
tiny wood screws. There is a simple small sliding latch bolt on the butt to latch the two parts.
Simply pulling it back and holding unlocks the parts. It is a interrupted thread design so a quarter
turn and it's apart. If you look close you can see the latch etc., however Lancaster if you still want
more pics., I'll take some in the next few days. Forgot to say the fore-end is screwed onto the barrel. All take care --- John
