Hi Sarg,

There's nothing wrong with those photos. Most people would be more than happy with them. Well done.

Usually a wombat photo of one not photographed in captivity is just an indistinct grey shadow in the semi dark. Or a running blur as it dives down a hole.

Sarg, well done.

Do you have any of their holes entrances to show people? If shown to scale I think they are interesting as they are quite large.

Don't really see wombats here, but a place where I used to spotlight for rabbits near the Murray River, we used to get a lot of rabbits too, until we got bored with the numbers, used to have a lot of good wombats and wombat holes. Never took a photo, or if I did, lost in the transparency files and drawers.

Not so cute if they are digging holes in your yard or you hit one on the road. They are quite solid and are responsible for many car crashes and a few road fatlaties in Victoria.

Love em! Thanks Sarg!

I've heard they're about like hitting a rock the size they are, just solid bloody muscle!

Their fur looks very nice - any value on the market or perhaps numbers are too low to support trapping for the fur market? They appear to have nice fur for a Canadian winter hat - for the East coast - LOL - they just got snowed upon, again.

Thank you guys, I didn't think any one would be interested other than Ash who asked for a pic !

Well these may look cute (and I think pet ones are) but quite a solid & heavy animal more so for they size
Which is like a small pig, I don't have any photos of they burrows or them near one, even thou I have seen tens of them going down them .

I was once charged by one in long grass (actually gave me a fright) I leaped over it only to be charged harder & faster, these have powerfully fore legs with strong claws (for digging) & large teeth, I had no idea they charged or what they could do when they got you !

As it turn out she had a tiny cub & when I jumped over her nearly landed on the cub, so she kept up the attack embarrassing really after being charged by Buffalo & Bantang, I never told any one till now.

These are a marsupial & have a small pouch, I suppose the young get to heavy to carry in they pouches
The hair is coarse but would make a warm hat I guess, officially protect as a Australia native, but can be killed on crop/land damage permits as numbers get high some times, like in Tassie now with the Devil numbers down to low levels !

I was going to write more, but it would turn into a National Geographic article

Wombats are treated like roos in many places here and shot on permit.l have had a fair few spills on quads when dropping a wheel into a burrow.I have a few 'bat pics somewhere as they are often encountered in sambar country.
