Now THAT'S interesting. I've never seen hammers or actions such as those before.

Selfcocking perhaps?
Or should it be exposed hammers to cock/decock when required?

Cock, uncock is what I was thinking.

in fact yes, the Krohnengewehr is a construction from 1886 build with sxs doubles and drillings. its some kind of self cocking action with hammer's to uncock and cock again by hand if you wish.

That makes sense due to the design.

Daryl,
"a gun without hammers is like a Spaniel without ears"

IMHO this gun qualifies. I like it and would hope someone on the forum can buy or definitively answer the question "self cock"? Maybe it just raises the hammers to half cock.

I'd like to see double rifles with such a mechanism. Cocked on opening automatically. Some sort of triggervsafetyy or better cocking release prevention safety. But allow hammers to be unlocked manually.

Nothing different to internal automatic cocking except as exposed can be manually uncocked.

Carrying around a cocked double gun all day with the safety on,it's far more reassuring to be able to uncock it. And also avoid these annoying shoots where the cotton wool organisers expect guns to always be carried broken.

Of course a gun like the Krieghof has a safety de-cocker which uncocks and re-cocks the internal hammers. Pity the Krieghof guns are not styled more classicly

That buffalo charge that appeared and stopped at point blank range would have succeeded if that PH had not had his rifle ready to shoot.
