Interesting. Our cheapest .17HMR ammo runs $12.99 for WW 20gr. HP. Most of the 17gr. Vmax ammo runs $14.99 to $19.99 depending on the colour of the box you prefer.
Now, .22 WMR ammo is priced similarly.
Personally, I have no use for the semi-auto - I can shoot fast enough with a bolt gun - or single shot. We use the HMR's primarily for shooting sage rats, from 100 to 200yards. The re-barreled Ruger 10-22's are for up to 100yards and one can go through a LOT of those, fairly inexpensively, compared to HMR's.

The semi autos are fun for 'runners'.

Agree--we use the 22 mags and 17HMR for the big gophers and sometimes even p-dogs if they are 250 or less..funny to watch..no explosion like off a 22-250--they just tip over..

have used the 22 mag for years..bought a savage bolt a while back, that along with the ruger i hvae in 22 mag works nice for that..but have 2 anschutz's in 17 HMR that are incredibly accurate and really enjoy shooting those...

Ammo here is about the same price--think the last I looked it was 12.99 for a box or 17HMR Hornady's..

Both Ruger and Remington used old technology and failed with this cartridge and the smaller 17 HM2. I hope Savage has come up with something new that can safely utilized these cartridges.

Standard recoil operation is not going to tame these rounds. Some sort of delayed unlocking system is dearly need.

It is a real shame Ruger didn't come up with something for the 17HM2. That is one very accurate little cartridge. The 10-22 is barely strong enough to handle the .22 LR. As it is the 17HM2 will die.

I don't know back how many battered 10-22's I rebuilt back when I had my shop open.

The writeup noted a delayed blow-back action - like a 1911 Colt? The locking lugs and tipping link delayed the blowback, I assume, on the pistol.
