Battle of the big Bores
      #260939 - 22/02/15 09:44 AM

For those who haven't read this I hope you find it informative. It is a practical argument and does not allow for the nostalgic factor or the " mine is bigger than yours" factor. Please keep in mind that it is legal in most countries to hunt with a .50 BMG cartridge with soft point bullets or solids made for dangerous game and that's considerably bigger than a .505 Gibbs. The second site is for those interested in the.458 Win Mag.

I have shot most of those bullets in my .458 Alaskan, .45 3 1/4" Sharps or in the 2, .458 Americans. They are good bullets.

I will add that the super tough 300gr. Nosler Partition for the lever guns and 1/16" (.0625") thick jacket on the 350gr. Speer in all others should be very good for just about all of NA game - I'd expect - with exceptional penetration, just short of the TSC 350's, but with more tissue destruction, ie: damage.

Mr. Mitchell likes the .338 bore, the .458 bore, and Ruger Number 1's. I like him.
