Before your question can be answered, we need to know what country you're looking to bring it into.

I would be bringing it into the United States.

Legally sport hunted Leopard may be imported into the U.S. You must, however, apply for a cites permit, in order to do so.

I've not hunted Leopard so I'm not familiar with the process. Perhaps others who have hunted them, or one of our resident P.H.s can shed some light on this for us.

It is a good idea to edit your profile to show at least one's country. Makes it a lot easier for everyone. Thanks.

In Aussie leopard imports are prohibited.

That really sucks! Too bad, because they make such beautiful mounts.

Here is a link to the PDF application for a U.S. import permit of sport taken leopard:

Leopard CITES import application

Here is a fact sheet:

Fact Sheet

I've done it. It was easy.

It takes about six weeks to get the permit. Costs about US$25 and is good for a year. Try to time getting your permit about a month or 6 weeks before you leave. That way you'll get the most time to get your trophy shipped back. Otherwise you'll have to get another one and have the african shipper hold your cat until then.

Take a COPY of your permit with you on the hunt and leave it with the outfitter, if your successful. It may help them with the export permit.

You'll need to send the ORIGINAL to your U.S. Customs clearance broker (if you decide to use one) when you hear that you trophies are being shipped. You can also do the clearance yourself, but I haven't done that.

Your U.S. booking agent should help you with ALL of this. If he/she doesn't, start looking elsewhere.

Take Care,

-Steve

I applied for a CITES permit for a leopard in mid December of 2004. Shortly after the first of the year I got a letter letting me know my aplication was being processed. About 2 weeks ago my completed permit came in and is ready to go. Hopefully I'll need it in July.

You go shoot that kitty kat, and I'll give it a place of honor in my trophy room.

Mike

Good deal!

I want to have a fully mounted leopard mounted crouching on a branch. Fix it to the wall above a doorway with a speaker hidden behind, and a infra-red beam across the doorway, so it snarls as someones walks through.

Deal ?

But you will also have to frame it between those 85 lb tusks I want to get to and the bloody gov't won't let me bring in. I'd love to have a fully mounted trumpeting bull elephant (with sound and sensors) but now I think I'm just being silly.

That sounds like a good plan
