1903 rifle(Question for Lancaster perhaps..:LOL)
      #260065 - 07/02/15 04:59 AM

I can may get my hands on a 1903 rifle. I have looked around the "net" and the 1903 MS is predominantly represented in the carbine version.

Is there anybody here that has an idea have many rifle versions were made in comparison to the carbine version?.

Nobody knows, but while the 1903 "Stutzen" with full length stocks were most popular in central Europe and America, British seem to have preferred the longer, half stock rifles. BTW, the foreend tip of your rifle does not look "factory original". I was certainly altered in the past. So your rifle may have been a fullstock with the foreend cut back sometime.

if you ask me just now if I had seen a 1903 rifle before will not be sure I ever have seen only one. the short full stock carbine is the gun you have in mind immediately when it comes to 6,5x54.
the rifle looks used but honourable so it depends on condition and price like allways.

Good news and bad news!!.

Bad news is I have been informed the rifle is a rebarrel job made by Schulz & Larsen. That it self is not bad though...but I wanted an original ― stocked.
Good news...I wonīt buy it.

The Price was 280€.

Rigbymauser, I wouldn't be concerned that Schultz and Larson rebarreled the rifle, after all they were a highly skilled company who made their own world class cut rifle barrels which means it is the same type of barrel as originally fitted. Westley Richards, Holland & Holland etc. rebarrel and repair guns by other makers all the time and not many people would pass up the opportunity to buy one at a good price, just because it was not the original in every respect. If the job has been well done, 280 Euro is an insane price.

That's the price an action alone sells for over here.

I guess preferences are different closer to the country of origin

Well...I want an original. I am not a collector who wants a minty unfired condition. A refurbished, reblued would become just fine just so long all the components on the gun been together since it was born on the assembly line.

The carbines present no problems to find. I already know where there is a few. Thanks for sharing the link. That one however I didnīt know about. Now there is three to be found.

With kind regards.
