I was recently fortunate enought to pick up a 303 Rigby Mauser, sans its original barrel, but otherwise intact.
With the rifle came this rear sight ( minus the base), which the owner states was " probably" the original, but after 40 years his memory is not what it used to be! It is quite non typical Rigby, but looks correct for the rifle. It sports the half aperture, multi leaves with the front one folding forwards, and the rest folding backwards. I presume the half apertue makes for easy use of the the Rigby peep sight, which is present and correct according to the Rigby record.
As I intend to bring the rifle back to its original state can anyone confirm having seen this sight on any other Rigby Rifle. Grateful for any comments.
Best Eric

Looked through my Rigby and Mauser books but can't find any express sights that look like this. Rigby rear express sights are generally dovetailed into their base, unlike this one. JMO, but I don't believe this is an original Rigby sight.

Looks like a Jeffery sight.

It certainly appears to be, Huvius - but with one more leaf as well as having a deeper 1/2 aperture due to the low height of the 50 yard, first leaf.

Thank you everyone.
I now have information that a freind has located a Rigby, ( a 303), also with the same sight??.
I am just waiting for pics to confirm. Dons, it certainly would unusual.
What with the Rigby peep, what appears to a rather elaborate rear, and a scope sight they certainly had the sight oprions covered!!

It could be a sight which was available to the trade rather than made and fit in house by the likes of Jeffery and Rigby. One of my Frasers has the same type of sight, which I assumed was from a Jeffery, but now your Rigby and possibly another with such a sight makes me think it was a feature available on any British rifle originally fit with a peep sight. Of course, the Jeffery Manlicher I got from Tinker has a Jeff patent peep but all of the express leaves fold flat. I guess that is a good option for a peep equipped rifle too.

Thank you for the pics, i think you are correct. I think most of this barrel furniture came out of the the trade and was used by several makers.
It would have been unusual for Rigby to have varied the in house style....but never say never with these things. I will await the pics from the " other" 303 before deciding to fit it on the repalcement barrel.
