Do any modern handguns use attachable butt stocks?

Not really current but the Russian Stechkin comes to mind.

Glock makes a plastic shoulder stock more or less for the 18 (Full Auto) for controllability.

Also nearing "modern", the Browning Capitan. I had one for some years (Registered SBR as per US law). The problem is that the stocks really don't do much good. The open rear sight is very close to the eye and thus blurs out for most folks and the long-range sights become quite a joke in practice. With a peep I can see how the C96 and Luger long barrel jobs might work out pretty well or at least present some value.

The Canadian military did extensive testing with their Inglis High Powers and decided the stock was a waste of time. I had plans to write an article about them and did extensive shooting with mine and came to the same conclusion. I could shoot a pistol as well w/o as with the stock. I will say I am a very good pistol shot, so maybe (?) one with really sub-par skills might find the stock useful? The only application I myself found advantageous was when very fatigued. Then it was a quantifiable help. I did this in testing while doing ski sprints. But otherwise...no.

Similar stock to the artillery Lugers (2) we had in the Store in Vancouver, mid 70's.

The holster stock.

I made a skeleton rig for carrying it. Similar to the various German & Chinese setups. Heavier leather.

this high power would be the right gun to hunt turkey!

in fact similar to the Mauser C 96 stock. I had both, C 96( in 9 Para) and the long artillery luger with shoulder stocks and love it. sold them 18 years ago but thats another story.
its probably a question of the personal taste but I am a strong believer in the shoulder stock pistol.
imho, its the better submachine gun because full auto is a doubtful capability. in the 90s we had the possibility to shoot on the local military range once a month. one range had bobbing targets, size of a soldier, maybe 1,50 me high. laying on the ground with shoulderstock pistol I was able to hit any target with the first shoot. up to 200 meter without adjusting the sights, simple aim to the head, maybe hiting the knee on 200 meter but the target turn down.

if you don't like this you will not have fun. have shoot the C 96, Parabellum long and short barrel, also the 6 inch long .22 RF insert and the Stechkin APS that having a C 96 type shoulder stock but most times made from bakelite and not from wood.
there are not many shoulder stock pistols, the FN high power, the Lathi pistol, the old bergman pistol and of course the M 1893 Borschardt.

the US short barrel rifle law is stupid but any country have a stupid gun law ot two so does america.

I have something at the planning stage but it will need some time to be ready. you see it here

That's interesting.
Here in B.C., for turkey, air rifle, rimfire or shotguns only.

Isn't a flintlock rifle a rimfire?

I had a look and yes the Browning HiPower seems to have a wooden holster, butt stock, similar to the C96. I wasn't aware of that at all.

The Browning HiPower had a good reputation as a handgun. Why did they stop using it?

Australian Military used it, the SASR often did, and many other countries.

your high power with shoulder stock is a short barrel rifle so must be legal!

dont know if any high power have the notch for the shoulder stock, pre war FN and canadian Inglis have it. a repro C 96 shoulder stock should fit.

Ancient expensive production technology. Worn out tooling. Single Action-only. Controls/manual or arms out of fashion. Glock popularized the radical new approach to gun making introduced by H&K w/ their VP70 & VP70Z and case closed.

Actually, for grouse that's right. It could be used AFAIK. But alas...still not technically for turkey...

Most HP's did not have the stock slot. Some early production did. The Inglis guns did and later some of the later Capitan versions did. I'm not sure if the "bayonet" lug attachment is the same? My stock was actually a Canadian military stock made for the Inglis guns. It was a very tight fit at first. I no longer have it. The 500 meter elevation adjustable front sight was rather optimistic, that's for sure!

Glock? That's funny. What clown military uses a Block?

No it's because you have to "modernise" to keep the profits flowing into the arms industry owners pockets.

Probably all metal quality construction costs too much. Plastic crap is cheaper.

"Everybody" uses Glocks to some degree or another.

As for business interests influencing design, production & adoption of military weapons, it's always been that way. Business complications and business profits drive weapons design and production.

The HP itself for example was hampered by the necessity to avoid patent infringement on the trigger mechanism and thus it's cobbled-together trigger & poor trigger pull by comparison to some other pistols. It's magazine was revolutionary at the time but suffered from a design flaw rectified by later designs. Cost to produce is no small issue if millions have to be made.

And...the Glock & subsequent designs are easier to maintain and possess extreme reliability and ultra-extreme round count life expectancy. And absolutely...cheaper to maintain.

I've owned piles of HP's over the years and they are excellent pistols, but the SA system is a disadvantage and they are basically obsolete at this point. Expensive to produce and in possession of a few functional disadvantages, the following generations of defensive pistols are just... "better".

That would be classed as a semi automatic rifle so very difficult to own. Collector only.
