Great South African Cabernet
      #25672 - 05/02/05 10:43 AM

If you can locate it, I highly suggest a wonderful South African Cabernet: Rust n Vrede Estate-2000 vintage. Rust n Vrede is a small, family owned winery from the Cape Region, and this particular wine has been recognized as one of the top 100 wines in the world (no slight intended for the fine wines produced by our Aussie friends). It is fairly pricey as far as RSA wines go. Here in Pennsylvania it sells for $31.00, which is a little more than I usually pay for a nice wine, but it is well worth it. A computer search done by our state run liquor and wine stores showed that there were only 18 bottles to be found anywhere in the state, and I bought a case of 12. Give it a try, and let me know what you think.

I bought home such a bottle from RSA....it's sat here and it's unopened.....My kid has been apraised that it's to be served at my passing and that it's not to be opened until then. I hope they appreciate it.

That shouldn't be a problem, as long as it's stored properly. Otherwise, they'll be drinking vinegar , and no one will enjoy it. I'd suggest you have a good friend or two over, and enjoy it with a nice venison dinner.

I wouldn't dare to be so presumptuous.

Mike:

I'll have to check it out.

The last time the wife and I were in Napa, we ate at Domaine Chandon and had a wonderful Shiraz from (I believe0 Oregon. Name was Pax. It was the 2000 vintage and man, outstanding!

Our favorite wine, without a doubt, it Duckhorn. A Napa variety. We were at the 25 Anniversary Open House and did some barrell tasting from the exclusing meritage from their anniversay year. It is OUTSTANDING!

The older Duckhorns suck, but the most recent ones (from the mid 90s and up) are rather outstanding!

We also have a 2000 Quintessa that was well suited with a rare NY Strip...

I'll give your recommendation a try if I can find it in Virginia.

Thanks for the information. I'll have to check them out and see if they're available here in PA.
