Quite a fancy piece there Lancaster - would that be the starter under the buttstock?

good question, wonder by myself what this could be. a bullet starter makes sense but I never see this before.

danish jaeger rifle Model 1807/48 with bajonet https://www.lauritz.com/en/auctions/hunt...8071848/6496081

target rifle by morgenroth in gernrode https://auctionet.com/de/3851091-morgen-...ndert-schlosser

coming back to this problem "Quite a fancy piece there Lancaster - would that be the starter under the buttstock? "

here is another one, now a belgian made double gun https://auctionet.com/de/3879048-doppelrohr-schlingengewehr-belgien-um-1850-33

same kind of knob, I know this from target rifles where its used as a hand support for off hand target shooting but on a double gun it could only be some kind of starter.

Very similar bayonet lug to the Baker Rifle.

my own jägerbüchse from the napoleonic wars is also similar

must have been the common method then to fix a Hirschfänger-bayonet. I wonder how much pressure you can make on the cast brass handle until it breaks out.

Well, that one appears well used and not broken!
Must have the steel sword shank inside it.

some teutonic jaegerrifles or Stutzen

14 mm caliber https://www.dorotheum.com/de/l/9286339/#

15 mm caliber https://www.dorotheum.com/de/l/9286345/#

12,5 mm caliber https://www.dorotheum.com/de/l/9286360/#

this seems to have again a bullet starter under the stock

Nice. All with swamped barrels.
It appears so, but would be a ball starter, not a bullet starter.
12.5 - .49, then .55 & .59 for the 15mm.

this looks also like a common jaegerrifle https://auctionet.com/de/3899283-ein-schleudergewehr-aus-der-mitte-des-19-jahrhunderts

but the barrel have no front sight

instead the octagonal barrel is turned round and there is a bayonet stud underside. maybe the bayonet had the front sight? looks not like the best way to fix a front sight on a rifle with a double set trigger.

Your premise that the bayonet had a front sight might be correct, or the front barrel/stock band has been altered as this was oft-times where the front sight was positioned, on the top of the band going over the barrel.
Appears to be a small calibre too 11.6mm or so?
Maybe this one was meant for a conical.

The bottom rifle looks VERY much like an English Sporting Rifle.
This, due to the English lock, flat bottomed bolster with platinum blow plug and drip rail, along with multiple leaf read sight along with a very low front sight.
This rifle looks almost identical to my bro's Joseph Lang rife, made in 1852 or 53. Identical right down to the trigger guard and checkering. Taylor's Lang rifle has a looped front sling attachment, pivoting from the under rib.
