Thomas Bland double rifle
      #255337 - 17/10/14 08:03 AM

I have been offered a Thomas Bland double. It is marked on the flats 275 along with nitro proof and other stamps. The gun is engraved with some stags as is the metal butt plate. The rifle is well used with bluing wear throughout. The stock is not cracked and has the usual bumps and scratches. The owner says it is a 7x57, is tight and barrels good. He has never shot the gun and did not know what regulated was. I have asked him to shoot it with two right and lefts and get back to me. The gun is a long way from me so I am unable to try it. I can find very little on the web for these guns. Anyone have an idea if they were good guns and their worth.

Wow -- get photos and post them here.
Complete coverage including details of all barrel markings and action flats too.
Get very good detail all around the wrist and head of the stock.
Breech faces, barrel breeches, muzzles, and a peek down the bores.
Get images of the sights and the ribs.

A Bland in 275 will be a very very cool little rifle.
You should be seeing some of the best work of it's era.

Price will depend on condition.
Good bores, solid wood, mechanically sound and tight on the face - you want to know what to expect. Repairs can be made but could greatly affect value.

Let's see it!!

That is a really nice light double!
Although the engraving is not typical of an English gun, I kind of like it.
Looks like it could have been a Christmas present if only the leaves were holly instead of thistle.
The barrels look to be of Shoe Lump construction with the "shoe" nicely contoured on the sides.
Looks to be in well used but not abused condition but I can't give a good guess as to what it should be worth.
Can we get a look at the top of the action opened and closed. Looks like a rib extension there but cannot tell if it has a Greener style crossbolt or a hidden third fastener.

Ah-- I'd pass. Never did like that engraving style, bummer on the chambering, and a nondescript manufacturer at that. Now, having saved you all that grief, I would be willing to save the double rifle general unwashed public the embarrassment of having to deal with such. Simply foreward the seller's info and all will be well. A sacrifice for me, but someone has to do it.

Cheers! Doug
