A Holland & Holland in Mozambique
      #254603 - 04/10/14 06:05 PM

Alex McDonald using a Holland & Holland in .470 Nitro Express.

Yes Alex is left handed and the rifle is designed for a right hander. The rifle is owned by a client of McDonald Safaris who hunts with them every year. Alex says, he has had the use of it as a backup rifle for the last two years. Lucky guy.

Originally the rifle was chambered in .500/450 NE but due to the difficulties in obtaining ammunition, it was rebarrelled in 1964 to .470 NE by Franz Sodia in Austria.

The rifle has been used in Kenya and Tanzania for hunting, then sold and later used in Namibia. More recently in Mozambique.

Lovely rifle. Obviously pre 1908-09.

I can understand the difficulties with the ammunition, was probably proofed for tropical load too.

Did they keep the original barels or use them?

Cheers,

Chris
