Manlicher Model 70 Winchester

Interesting find in a LGS. Couldnt help myself. Winchester M70 1968, by serial # 270 cal. Only 500-600 made.
cleaned up okay and shoots good, with factory hornady. Shot a couple of pigs with it all ready. Heres some pics, cheers Mick

Nice pick-up- congratulations!
As well as a hog-hammer, it will be a fine contender for the Stalking Rifle events at our local Big Game Rifle shoots...?

A .270 with such a short barrel muct be an ear splitter. I had a Mannlicher Schoenauer 1951 carbine in that caliber and had it rebored and rechambered to 9.3X62 for that reason.

I have a Ruger Ultralite in .270Win, which has a 20" barrel, but I do not find it objectionable to shoot and I don't think that the muzzle blast is much more than many other rifles. Surprisingly, with Reloader 17, this short barrel comes very close to factory ballistics and shoots quite accurately; more than enough for hunting purposes.

So, I don't think that the short barrel on the M70 Mannlicher would be much different.
