Example of a rimmed cartridge magazine box
      #250557 - 17/07/14 02:18 AM

Magazine box and bottom metal from a Mauser action from about 1908. Unusual as it was made for rimmed cartridges, allowing stacking of the rimmed rounds with the rim of each cartridge positioned in front of the round below. This magazine was for a .400/350 Rigby cartridge.

The slanted box magazine was also used for some of the early rifles chambered for the .350 Magnum rimless round.

The three magazines in the picture are from 1) Chilean Model 1935 Carbine, 2) 1930 Mauser Type B chambered for the 10.75x68mm and restored by Dave Norin (fantastic work) and 3) 350 Magnum Rigby Mauser.

The 350 Magnum Rigby Mauser with the early step-down receiver ring was manufactured approx. 1908 and Rigby sold the rifle in 1910.

Thanks for posting the slant box pictures. Looks very similar to the Siamese Mauser box. Can you measure the box width at front and back. a picture of box from top would be great.

Very nice grouping of bottom metal and receivers. Is the "step" type Rigby receiver just and altered Mauser large ring? Do you know the receiver ring diameter on the step and the receiver at the engraving.

No the stepped receivers had the small thread , while the "standard" magnum action used the larger thread.

jgrabow,

Once you get you rifle back can you post the dimensions of your slant box. I'm looking for a replacement for mine (303 British) and attempted to use a Siamese however it's too wide at the rear.

Ron
