In addition, I have very rarely heard of someone dying of snakebite on safari. Actually never heard of a client bitten to death,
although I'm quite sure that it must have happened.

Broadly speaking, snakes kill and seriously damage way more people in Africa that any or all DG do each yr, by a huge margin.

Its currently estimated that well over 1 million people per annum are bitten by snake in Africa, with only about 300,000 officially reported.
Based on reported incidents only , estimated annual deaths are in the region of 7000 per year, amputations ranging to 14,000 per year,
however, the large estimate of unrecorded cases strongly suggest the numbers of deaths and amputations are actually significantly higher.

Statistically speaking, antivenin has a much higher potential to save lives & prevent serious injury across Africa than carrying a DG rifle does.

Same as Ripp, I do NOT go to any African Safari area that has dangerous game with a rifle of less than 9.3x62 calibre.
Perhaps it's because we have both hunted Chewore on a number of occasions.
Personally I know MANY PHs that have been mauled, tusked, gored, bitten and even killed. Not to mention all the charges and self defence shootings.
IMO, DG areas are no place for light calibre rifles and the theory that the PH will save you!
