a Springer's Stutzen with a Frühwirth action

this nice bolt action repeating stutzen was sold last month http://www.rockislandauction.com/viewitem/aid/61/lid/1489
chambered for a 10,5x50R cartridge it was ordered by a german nobleman probably as a present for the german Kaiser. unblemished it shows how a german hunting rifle had to be since the age of the flintlock rifle.

This rifle looks better in person than the pictures can show. The color case hardening and the contrast of the wood grain is stunning.
I haven't looked up the sale price but i'm sure it was well north of what my meager budget could handle.
Sometimes its a curse living near the Rock Island Auction, but at least I get to look at and handle quite a few very nice guns and rifles.

The monogram on the receiver ring, W under a Prussian King’s crown, is not that of Wilhelm II, Kaiser from 1888 – 1918, but of his grandfather Wilhelm I, King of Prussia 1861 – 1888, additionally but reluctantly German Kaiser 1871 – 1888. His time span fits much better with Ferdinand Fruwirth’s 1871 repeater design than a post-1888 date.

thinking the same
this rifle interesting as it is was outdated by the more than rapid developtment in 1888. iirc, in "Wild und Hund" was an article about the personal rifles of wilhelm the second some years ago and I dont remember such a rifle.

here is a pic with the Kaiser and a parabellum hunting carbine

not his common hunting gun but this is the age he represent
