Snakes alive.
      #24781 - 21/01/05 08:29 PM

Check this guys out. Caught the other night on base. And now the good news, I've talked the wife into letting me keep one. Its an olive python and they get to around 4 meters.

Can't see the picture mate...
I have a couple of snakes of my own, a Brown tree snake and an Oenpelli Python. Tree snake is called Howard and the Python is called Kim (named after certain political leaders...).

BTW, I don't think your Olive python will get anything close to 4m, especially in captivity. You would have to feed it a chicken every week to grow like that. If you intend on keeping it, you need a licence but wild snakes cannot be caught and kept except in special circumstances... Big fine also!

The image again.

We get alot of call outs to remove snakes from accomodation areas on base when visiting squadrons are here (the yanks don't like them at all ). These are handed over to the snake guy in Katherine who takes a few pics and releases them in the scrub away from traffic etc.

Yep I know. I'm starting with a childrens python, the enclosure is nearly finished and I may get an olive down the track. I have a mate with quite a few snakes (8). He doesn't like the olives as they have no markings but I kinda like them. I came across a BIG olive out pig hunting earlier this year. Biggest snake I've seen in Australia 3.5-4 meters ish. Nice big head, didn't move when the dogs walked right over its head. I wanted to take a pic but I thought if I attracted the dogs attention to it they might have a go at the big bugger.

Bakes,I've got a soft spot for the olive python as well.

Tunofun sounds like a parky by the way he is quoting the law.

No mate he's a Diesel Mechanic.
Well I've fitted the heat light and cut out the ventilation holes. I have a sparky lined up to install a fluro and thermostat. I'm going to get a fake rock back ground from Rocks these guys. Should look good. I'll post a pic when its finished.

Stuff the licence. If they are found in the wild and even more so as nuisances in people's yards where's the harm in keeping one as a pet.

"A chicken a week". Mate you will need to do some duck shooting.

Hehehehe, no, not a parky! I got in trouble once already for having a snake I shouldn't have, that's how I know! The hard way...

I like the olives too, I'll see if I can dig up a photo of one I caught on the Daly floodplain last year, he was BIG!

Children's pythons are great, even when small, don't be scared to give it an adult mouse. It is amazing what they can fit in their gobs!

With your enclosure, might I suggest a timer for the heat lamp, set to normal daylight hours.

Check this lizard out, caught him down the Daly too...

He was exactly 2.5m long and very heavy! Coulda made a whole jacket! After I threw him back in, a big (read 4m) saltie chased our boat for about 5km, scary when they are the same size as your boat!

I'm also part of the ADF family here in te NT and work on Robbo...
