I was looking around at GB to see if I could find a clean and cheap Mauser 98, basically for the action, and found this rifle, listed as 8MM. It seems unusual in that it has what appears to be a guild or oberndorf barrel setup, and the stock doesn't appear to be a US commercial stock? I haven't received it yet, so the photos below are from GB. Comments welcome.

One of my favorite hunting rifles is a Mauser sporter on a cheap DuV 41 military action with open sights in 8mm. I bought it on Gunbroker too. It is fantastically accurate, and I think you'll do well with this one too. I plan to get mine Cerakoted after I move later this month, and hope to use it for everything that I can hunt with it.
Good hunting!

The Mauser came in this week ... and very interesting it is too. It's pretty apparent that it's been worked on over the years. Receiver marks have been ground off, and you can see grinding/polishing marks elsewhere. What was a very pleasant surprise is the Timney trigger I found after taking it apart! There is also bedding material in the barrel channel and under the front part of the receiver. I'd welcome any comments/insights as to parts, etc. I'm very curious as to this rifle's history. I've some photos to share below ...

Looks like a great useful rifle, probably a good buy. Will be interesting to see how it shoots?!

Looks good,a no nonsense sporter which looks like it may have started life as a Gew 98, it's a pity they ground off the top of the receiver, it could have had an Oberndorf address on it.

Love your rifle! Thin, light, and made to hunt. I own a very similar rifle. Mine has raised side panels and a more open grip. I'm not a fan of the look of side pannels. It points for me like a fitted bird gun. Someone rechambered it to 8mm-06 and matte blued all the metal. I haven't shot it yet, but hope to soon. I wish it had not been rechambered. The standard 8x57 is such a great efficient round. What is your rifles muzzle diameter? Mine is .615. I've come across many rifles like these. All seem too have identicle barrel contours. Have fun!
