I think I got things backwards but could not help myself, I bought the barrel first. The seller advertised a Mauser barrel, octagon to round, integral rib & front ramp, slider rear sight, in 7.6S (30-06?) calibre. On the rib is the following "Waffenfabrik AG Oberndorf AM Neckar". It turned out to be small mauser thread but I'm still pleased. The seller also sent an invoice from 1946 when the barrel was removed from from the original rifle and rebarreled by Johnson Automatics Mfg. Co. Providence R.I. and has been in his closet ever since. The original # on the gun was 82896 (1921?)should anyone happen upon it. Now what to do with it - any comments / suggestions will be appreciated. --- John

Nice barrel. Bet it would cost much more to have one made than what you paid.

The fact it turned out to be a small ring, despite an initial twitch of disappointment, turned out to be a +. A Brno 22H action I've had for a few years and it look just great together. I wish I had Speed's book but the cost has gone beyond me - it would be interesting to see a pic. of the "sister" Yes it was a good deal for someone that doesn't care about calibre, the workmanship is absolutely wonderful. Don't quote me but a new barrel in the configuration I think is about $3000.00Cdn?? today and no history for story telling. Thankyou for your comments. --- John

I have 2 Type A barrels, 8x60 and 7x57 ( with sights), and stocks…but no action. I hear your frustration!!.
Actually, I know where the 8x60 action is. It has a 243 barrel in it ………..Im desperatly trying to put it back together. I think I might to buy him new 243!!
Best Eric

There is no foto, just a table with numbers.

I had a 1902 Mexican action which would have been great for that barrel. I was shocked at the quality of the metal finish! As good as an Oberndorf sporter. The 1902 is a DWM made action and much nicer than the 1910 model Mexican actions. If you get a chance, take a look at one, but they are pretty rare.
