Picked up my MS 6.5x54.
      #244357 - 25/03/14 03:56 AM

I got back from the slope Friday and picked up my MS. It was waiting for me at my dealer. He said he had some guy interested in it before I got home.

I am always amazed every time I handle one of these little carbines just how well made they are. This one has some honest wear and as you can see was shortened at one time, I expect for a youth, and lengthened to the original LOP. I like a rifle with some history. The bore is great and it appears to have been well cared for but not babied. The stock needs a little cleaning from a couple of sticky labels I peeled off. I am excited to get to the range tomorrow to try a few loads. It will be a day for classics as I am taking the 35, 375 and 400 Whelens along with the little MS.

The Mannlicher came with the Swarovski 4x and has an interesting quick release mechanism. I am not too well educated on the mounts for these rifles. I'll be curious to see if the scope returns to zero reliably.

Here's a few pics.

Those are factory swing-off mounts. I have made several sets of those mounts for customers for different size scopes. When made properly, they swing smoothly and return to zero perfectly. I make the front ring first and then mount the scope to the rifle with the front ring only. I then measure the gap between the top surface of the mount and the bottom of the scope using slip gauges. Using this dimension the rear ring is made to exactly the right height. This way they swing and return to zero perfectly.
