Merkel cocking indicators...
      #243464 - 08/03/14 03:27 AM

I was looking over a few new Merkels online and noticed they didn't have the side mounted cocking indicators. Have they been relocated on the gun or eliminated entirely?

In my experience w/Merkel, cocking indicators are an "option". In fact, there are a ton of options one can order on these guns. My .470 140 A had no cocking indicators. It did have some pretty nice wood and it also had some light engraving on it. The gun was on the dealer shelf, so I took it as it was. Conversely, my Merkel 9.3x74 had cocking indicators, some really nice game scene engraving and some rather straight grained wood. My 140A small frame w/adjustable regulation had plain wood, no cocking indicators, and that was my fault because I failed to ask for all the options I wanted. They will build it however you want it. Just bring money to the party. They haven't stopped adding anything. They build it according to the order form and I suppose some they just turn out on spec and send out to their dealer network (or maybe more likely, they fill orders the dealer has placed). With the greatest of respect, I submit to you that that Merkels are not Remchester shelf guns. If you want it a certain way, pay your money, place your order and wait for the gun to arrive 1 + year later exactly how you like it. It is a different paradigm from the American gun market when you can get it in any colour you like so long as it is black - Ford of the early 20th Century vs Porsche of today.

Best,
