Einstecklauf zeroing and Convergence
      #243007 - 25/02/14 03:45 AM

Yesterday I spent some time at the range zeroing my S&K Drilling and its 22 Hornet Einstecklauf. After some shooting and fiddling, the Hornet now prints about 1.5" away from the 7mm barrel, and I'm bent on getting it closer. This got me to wondering if there is a "standard" on how close the insert barrel should shoot to the main barrel. Does anyone know if there is a standard, or best practice?

Also, what distance do you normally zero your 22 LR inserts?

Thanks-

John

It should print on target as the barrel is from the major rifle barrle.
if center to center of muzzles is 1/2", then the printed groups should be 1/2" from each other.
I'd guess half inch is about right with your gun.

75 yards might be a good 22lr zero, depending on your ammunition and interest.

have such an old short Krieghoff Einstecklauf in 22lr for my S&S Drilling but was not zeroing because one of the screw's was damaged. got a new screw by Krieghoff now and will make this next time.
because its only 22cm/8,5" long I will shoot it at 50 meter and thats the maximum, imho the 22 lr can do.

Thanks all!

Tinker, the 1/2" spread to match the distance between barrels makes perfect sense when you think about it - just like regulating a double rifle.

The "standard" for adjusting an Einstecklauf = insert barrel is adjusting it to the sights at that range it is most likely to be usefull. The main rifle barrel of a drilling or combination gun may shoot to the sights at 150 or 200 yards, but the insert is most likely to be used at small targets at much shorter ranges. So it should shoot to the sights at 100 yards for a .22 Hornet or a .22 Magnum rimfire, but at only about 50 yards for a .22 lr. Adjust it to shoot to your sight at these ranges, not to shoot in the same group as the main barrel. Making it to group with the main rifle barrel is quite useless, as the trajectory of the large and the small bore cartridges will be quite different anyhow. F.i. if a .22lr insert shoots into the same group with a 7x65R main barrel at 100 yards, it will be useless at the much shorter ranges it is of any use because of the high trajectory of a .22lr over 100 yards.

Kuduae-

Thanks for adding to this thread. My main rifle barrel is a 7x57R, and interestingly enough the GEE for the Hornet round and a 140 gr. 7x57R is very similar.

You are correct, a 150 yd shot will probably be the max I'd shoot something with the Hornet insert. I am incredibly impressed with the einstecklauf. It is a "Princess" brand, and routinely puts 5 rounds into less than an inch @ 100 yds, and the return to zero is impeccable.

I have a pre-war S&K 22 LR einstecklauf that I want to fit to my drilling as well for hunting squirrels, hence my question about the 22 LR.
