Round action stripped

Hi all,

I'm interested in the inner workings of a round action gun, as seen on a McKay Brown or Dickson. Specifically how does the flat spring interact with the hammer, is there a stirrup arrangement? I'd appreciate some pictures of a stripped action if anyone might be able to post?

The mainsprings have a simple roller on the end, although the very early ones had the mainspring mounted to the hammer with a tiny screw. This was obviously problematic (I've fixed a few myself) with little ears prone to breakage. The roller was quickly adopted in the first years of production.

Here is the oft-reproduced image from David's webpage: Elegant simplicity!

It has appeared in full-page adverts in the Bubblegum Journal and Shooting Times etc over several years.

Gives the general layout, but not easy to see what is going on behind the bridles.

Hope it is of interest nonetheless.

Many thanks for the picture Marrakai! I have seen that image before on the McKay Brown website...it's the inner workings that are proving elusive. Beautiful action!!

Marrakai, is that what is called a trigger plate action?

If not, what is?

I believe the Scottish round-actions qualify as trigger-plate actions, and they are often referred to as such.

Today there are other actions around that are technically trigger-plate , mainly modern European (non-sidelock) U/O guns. At least one is even hand-detachable! ...although memory fails me at the moment as to the maker- Kemen, perhaps?

It might be Zoli that you're thinking of?
I think their O/U DR's are trigger plate actions with hand detachable triggers/locks assembly.
