Proper Accessories For 1879 Murcott DR
      #241318 - 28/01/14 03:22 AM

Howdy Guys- Just acquired a beautiful Murcott 577-500 DR. It has large sling eyes....wondering what sort of sling would be proper for this gun built in 1879? Also the (silvers?) pad has turned to stone and is badly cracked..should I replace it with another or would a leather cover pad or horn Buttplate be more appropriate? Thanks for your suggestions and opinions. Regards CHRIS

New silvers pad, leather sling with sling eye hooks and a case. Which cartridge 577/500 3 1/8 or the #2?

I think these little fellas are what you need:

And Silvers pads do have a habit of turning from brick to stone over the years......

What Mike said, however much better if leather-covered. ...but bloody hard to find as a replacement unit these days!

Also, if you intend shooting the firearm plenty, just "bite the bullet" and install a red Pachmayer Decelerator, the rifle will outlast the pad anyway (and probably several more in its lifetime!) ...with apologies for the Colonial pragmatism!

And if you leather-cover the pad as well, no-one will ever know what is under there!

Had great luck with these. http://www.traderkeith.com/products.html

First item. Look to see how they are tied on another page, same sight. High quality.

I'll second the Rigby style tied slings, silent in the field and they look great!
