To all Shooters & Fishers Party SA Members

January 2014 Update

Party Executive

At the General Meeting of the Party held on the 17th December 2013, the Executive of the Party was confirmed by the members present. They are:

Chairman - Michael Hudson
Vice Chairman - Robert Low
Secretary - Tom Lianos
Treasurer - Steve Nicholas
Ordinary Executive Members - John Hahn, Peter Kerin, Jess Marks and P Wood.

Special thanks to the Hon Robert Brown MLC NSW Parliament and the Hon Rick Mazza MLC WA Parliament for attending and giving the meeting critical advice on the working of their respective Parliaments. The Party is now up and running and ready for the State Election in March.

Electoral Law Changes

On the last day of Parliament the Labour Government with support from the Liberal Opposition, joined together and amended the Electoral laws to make it more difficult for Minor Parties and Independents to nominate candidates for elections. They increased the fees from $450 to $3000 per candidate and now require that a minimum of 2 candidates be nominated per Party or Group to list candidates above the line on the ballot paper and to be able to exchange preferences. This is a serious impost for small parties and will make it extremely difficult for many Minor Parties and Independent Groups to contest the next election.

2014 State Election

Shooters and Fishers Party have decided that we will run 2 candidates for the Legislative Council on the 15th March 2014 and exchange preferences with other Minor Parties first, before any of the Major Parties. This will maximise our chances and hopefully we can achieve what the Shooters and Fishers Party WA did in getting Rick Mazza elected at their WA State Election in March last year. To do this we need to attract a higher primary vote that the other minor parties and independent groups and also we need to ensure that we exchange preferences who these groups to ensure a high 2nd preference exchange.

To achieve this, we must let all Firearms Owners, Fishers and Outdoors Recreation enthusiasts such as 4WD users, Caravan and Campers, their friends, family and acquaintances know that we are ready to contest the Election next year. If every one of us can get 10 others to support us and they in turn do the same, then we stand a good chance of getting enough votes to be in the running. There are approx. 60,000 firearm licence holders in SA and many 10’s of 1000’s of Fishers and Outdoor enthusiasts. We can achieve this.

Funding and Donations

We also need to raise funds to enable us to get the message to them that we are a viable alternative to other Minor Parties and that we can make a difference to their interests, if we can get a Candidate elected to the Legislative Council. It is vital that all members discuss this with your respective member Clubs and Associations, your Shooting and Fishing mates, your family and friends who share a similar interest, NOW.
Without sufficient funds we will find it extremely hard to spread the word so please raise this as a matter of urgency with everyone.

Cheques and/or money orders may be sent to our postal address:

SFP SA
PO Box 336

Or alternatively you may donate funds electronically directly to our ANZ Bank account;

BSB 015208
Account Number 211844393

When using direct credit, please put your name and the word donation in the reference spaces so that we can keep track and record all donations received.

Already a number of major groups have pledged donations that will enable us to advertise at the critical time prior to Election Day.

Voting

All of us must talk to everyone who will listen and remind them that rarely a Minor Party or Independent Group gets a quota in there own right to get elected into the Legislative Council. But we must get a sizable vote to be able to use any preferences that we can exchange with other Minor Parties or Independent Groups. That is how and other Minor Parties in the past, Family First and the Greens, have managed to get elected. None have ever gained a quota in there own right.

We can do this as well, if we can get the message out to everyone of like mind and explain what a difference we can make if they vote for us. The time to start is right now.

We can only achieve this if we all let everyone we can know we are ready to contest the State Election on the 15th March 2014

Best wishes to all from the Executive for 2014

Michael T. Hudson
Chairman
