Just got back from a mid-asian ibex hunt in Kyrgyzstan...will post photos later...got an ibex..but was a wild adventure and frankly glad to be back home and still alive..:)
There were two of us there..my buddy didnt fare so well and is recieving medical care currently and will for the immediate future...his horse went down in the snow and ice..foot got caught in the stirrup..horse draged him at full speed for over 400 yards before the guides caught and stopped the horse..fortunately there was snow on the ground while helped..but he is very lucky to be alive...
We slept in very cheap little tents with no ventilation in fairly cool temps..we are at 12,000 ft and above..snow on the ground..temps anywhere from -5F to 5F in the morning..warming up really nice in the day..
Food was basically frozen bread and tea..with sheep fat if you cared to partake..luckily I brought protein bars from home along with little banana breads to live on ..
Was by far the wildest hunting adventure of my life in a number of different fronts...one main thing I did take away from this experience..the guides there seem to have no line between the truth and a lie..its all the same..tell you what they think you want to hear and then do whatever they want..so finally just quit asking things..as there was at least a 50% chance it was not true anyway so why bother... 
Again..will post photos and more of the story shortly..but will definitely not be going back with this outfitter ever...only good thing but did get my ibex..

Glad you are back safe and mostly sound, Ripp. I'm sure your family is MOST happy to have you home.

Good stuff Ripp,I look at that experience as a great hunt and one not to be forgotten.It wasnt a fat mans hunt where the game is placed in front of them it looks like hards yards hunting in some rough country.Lots of others couldnt do what you have done.That is a trophy to remember.
I would have ripped the fillets out of that Ibex and roasted them over the coals after living on the shit you had to eat ha ha.

Glad that you made it back in one piece it sounds like one hunt you'll never forget I hope your mate has a full recovery.Do you mind letting us know the name of the outfitter it seems like every 2nd Asian Ibex hunt I hear about turns into a bit of a nightmare.

Except for that "weird" horned ibex, looks like you were hunting just a bit East of here! Nice country!

I hope that your buddy makes a speedy recovery. Was there much medical help available there for him?

there was basically none other than the first-aid kit I had brought along..
as an update to his medical condition..he went in to the ER when we got back and found he had a broken fibia...but the doc sent him to a specialist..the following day they did a more extensive testing and found his ankle was broke in 2 places with an additional chip broken off one side..he had surgery the following day and the screwed everything back together..off that foot for 6-8 weeks..
but again--I saw the entire thing unfold..he is very very lucky to be alive..
and Yes, as to the outfitter..I found out a little more since --the manager that is normally in camp was at his brothers funeral --who had slipped and fell to his death a week prior to our arrival..the guides there had no normal supervision and were left to their own accord...big mistake imho, on the outfitters part...have a call today from the booking agent..will advise how this all plays out..

I really like these pics. Great scenery of that landscape. Good that you got that Ibex, otherwise it´s a long journey back home. Sorry about the accomodation or what to call it? Thats also a big part of the trip, when you are out like this. Great if your friend will be totally ok, had he any chance to hunt before the accident? /Staffan

NO-unfortunately my friend never got an opportunity for a shot at a trophy of any kind..and once the accident happened his ability to get around was not good...
there was no medical services available..however at the time he thought his ankle was just sprained and not broken in 2 places..so he hobbled around for 10 days before seeing any professional medical attention..we did what we could to prevent infection on the open wounds and that was it..

Rip I really hope that your buddy looks better than this in his Xrays.
This is my step son after a slip on the ice last winter in Ukraine. He's a walking hardware store!

WOW---that is incredible...
All of that from slipping on ice???
I had 5 in my leg a few years back from a skiing accident..thought I was still 20 yrs old and skied off a 20ft cliff..when I landed my right ski stuck between 2 rocks and I kept going..snap..but had them removed this spring..they would really get me sore on long back pack trips..

He's had some of the hardware out all ready and the rest will be removed soon. He's doing pretty good and we hope it'll continue to improve.
The Dr's here were impressed with the quality of the repairs done over there so that makes me feel good.
LOL, When I first saw that I was thinking of a repair to Frankenstein!

Nice scenery. Glad to see you scored on a Ibex. Pity about the outfitter staff's performance and lack of good food. Makes a big difference on a vigorous hunt. I hope your friend recovers fully. Seems it can be chancey with outfitters in some of these parts of the world.

Outfitter issues can be anywhere it seems..have had them occur here, Africa and Alaska...guess one has to check and recheck before signing up...
My friend is doing well..talked to his wife last night..issues with movement of his toes..going back in this week for another checkup...may have compartment syndrom...which can be a really buggar if that is the case...
