Wildboarhunt with Moosedog
      #238071 - 20/11/13 08:27 PM

Last sunday we did hunt Wildboars with a Moosedog. Most Moosedog owners donīt want their dogs to hunt Roedeer or other deer species, but often itīs ok if they hunt Wildboar. This day we did hunt both Moose and Boars. I was sitting up in a stand with a little cleancutting area in front of me. The dog started to bark 150 m away. It slowly did go in my direction, the dog barking all the time. I supposed it would be Moose and was prepared. I suddenly did see some movements in the younger forest on the other side. Suddenly a big Boar looked out With the dog on one side of him. He did go slowly over the cleancutting towards me. When he was at about 30m I shot him. I had to be careful because of the dog. He turned around and I shot him again and then he went down. Probably the first shot was good enough but I donīt want to go after big guys like this in thick young forests. It was very exciting because of the good dog work. I did use my Blaser .308 With 165gn North Fork bullets. The Boar 135 kg and the long teeths 190 mm.

I send in a sample of the meat on monday and had a trichinella test. Had the answer yesterday on tuesday, it was negative which is positive in this case. It was free from Trichinella.

It's called trichinosis here, I believe - the spell check didn't highlight it, so the spelling must be correct.

According to a Dr. friend of mine, commercial hogs fed garbage and garbage dump bears are the highest positives for Trichinosis in NA.

Nice hog, Sville. Well done.

I saw about twenty of Staffan's "forest fairies" in the night, by the light of their eyes at a feeding place. Staffan insisted they were boars but I wasn't sure , as we never saw any during the day! Just shows they may come for tucker, but are still wild and wary during the day when hunted and nowhere to be seen.

Well done on your boar, Staffan. Good to see the work is paying you back with some good hunting and lots of pork.

I think you scared them because now they donīt come forward in nights. Donīt know what you did to them. Could also be that Daniel and J-A have shot one each on nighthunting......
