Hunt insurance
      #237369 - 01/11/13 01:38 PM

Greetings,

I have just booked, and paid the deposit, for an alaskan hunt for September 2014. And it has been suggested that I may want to look at "hunt insurance".

I've always had travel insurance in case of illness or accident. However as I have only ever hunted in Australia and NZ and the costs have been fairly modest it is something that I have never previously given any thought about. So what I would like to know is does anyone here use it? and if so can you do you have any recommendations? And I suppose what exactly is hunt insurance? (I think I have an idea, but to assume usually makes an ass of u and me)

Oh yes and in case anyone is interested it's 14 days after Dall, Moose and grizzly, and maybe a wolf.

Rod

The SSAA Insurance Agency has a company they deal with which covers hunting activities. As I have been travelling a lot this year, four trips and fifth in December this year (next year will be a dearth I think in comparison), I purchased an annual policy which also covers my wife if she travels with me. It was good value. Normal single trip policies are also available of course.

My main complaint is that the values for goods is lower than under a previous insurer who no longer covers hunting and shooting activities. When taking expensive firearms and other goods this can be a huge loss is the proper value is not covered compared to the usual BS nominal values covered. However coverage for the usual travel risks are there, and also if hunting or shooting, when perhaps there is some increase in risk.

I have never had to test making a claim so can not comment on their performance on that area.

I forget the name of the policy/company. Will re-post when I remember. Also try a search on "insurance" and you will find it.
