Good Day to all members.
Please tell me more about the 8x75 Mauser rifle. I read about this Mauser in an article, apparently John Speed discussed this calibre in his books. I do not have one of John Speeds books. I really would like photos of this rifle an of its ammo.
Regards

IMO the unrimmed ammo is quite rare. The stopping power seems to settle between 8x64S and 8x68. Mr Speed says that ammo need magnum-lenght action and some Mauser Model B rifles has been made for this caliber. Down in the middle is rimmed version, Speed`s first book has only one black & white foto of unrimmed version and it looks very similar:

If I'm not mistaken, the 8x75 was one of the calibers offered on the magnum action in original Oberndorf sporters. I believe there is a photo of a rifle in that caliber in Speed's book, as well as images of the cartridge. Original sporters in that caliber are apparently very rare. As to the cartridge, I think the ballistics are something on the order of the .318 WR, maybe a bit hotter. I also seem to remember Speed commenting on a shipment of several rifles in this caliber going to one of the African countries - might be confusing it with something else.

Mauser Bolt Rifles by Ludwig Olson contains ballistics data for the 8x75 cartridge. It would be quite an effective round although needing a long action. The book shows muzzle velocities of 2722fps with a 227 grain bullet, 2709fps with 196gr, 2959fps with 185gr, 2978fps with 154gr and several other loads. Also gives powder charges and other ballistic data for this cartridge. The narrative says it was the longest and most powerful of the commercial 8mm cartridges. The photo in the book of the cartridge appears to be of the rimless version although it is not stated anywhere that there was a rimmed version and the DWM ballistic data does not identify which version the loads are for (10 loads in total.)
When I was in Germany my friend was fire-forming cases and working up loads for his single shot 8x75 rifle. I can't recall what the rifle was other than it was probably made in Ferlach for him and had an octagonal barrel and it was for the rimless cartridge.

Correct
Some years ago I owned an Original Magnum length action for this cartridge. The stock and barrel had long gone ( regrettably ) and I sold the action on due to the " restrictive " bottom metal setup. To set the bottom metal up for another cartridge in fact would have required a full replacement of box, follower, floor plate. A great pity as they were not common
