Seychelles and Comoros Islands in the Indian Ocean
      #23680 - 08/01/05 01:44 AM

I was wondering if any of our esteemed members have visited either of these islands - the Seychelles or the Comoros islands?

Both groups of islands are in the Indian Ocean but I believe are quite culturally different. Both are tropical paradises I believe.

Back in the early 1990's when planning my wife's and I honeymoon we looked at a stop over in the Comoros Islands on the way back. But as we already planned for five weeks in Zimbabwe, time was not available.

I am thinking if visiting Tanzania for a safari one day a flight via SE Asia and maybe India to the Seychelles and onto to Dar might be great, rather than the Jo'burg route. Forget for the moment firearms hassles of this choice.

I've never been there. I can tell you I would like to see Zanzibar and even Madagascar someday.

A couple of years ago my wife and I were looking into a holiday in the Seychelles, and found it to be one of the most expensive places we ever looked at.

It looked beautiful, but I just couldn't justify the cost.

Seychelles

A closed friend of mine flied to the Seychelles on honeymoon. I taught him hunting and now hunting is fully in his blood. Jesus, how he is suffering living now in Paris .
His wife chose the Seychelles for their honeymoon. My foxy friend begged a layover in South Africa. The first day he shot what he craved for, a wart hog and a nice Kudu, the second day Kruger Park and the third day they were in the Seychelles.
When communism is striking an island there is 2 solutions. The worst, you get Cuba, the best you get the Seychelles. Seychelles were embargoed. So they built hotels and restaurants with available construction materials. No concrete, no corrugated iron. The constructions are artistically made of wood, drift wood, rocks and thatch, absolutely natural, tasty and wonderful. Add to this that they now use the best talented architects in the world, that constructing is very limited and should not be visible from the sea. Many islands have restricted or forbidden accesses so that to stay preserved. To ice the cake plants and animals are protected and you get what is a pure paradise.
The other side of the coin is that is everything is costing dearly. If you want to quit drinking there no better place.
I know Madagascar and Mauritius .
Madagascar is big and awfully poor. There is very few luxurious hotels, even few correct roads (Since 1962 when the French were expelled, no roads were built). But the landscapes are wonderful and they have plants and animals one cannot find elsewhere. Hunting and fishing available.
Mauritius is a tourism island. No way to backpack. One have to come with a hotel reservation. Accommodations are rather outstanding than good, reasonable pricing and everybody is speaking English. Enchanting Island. Hunting and fishing available.

What hunting opportunities are in Madagascar?

It's the journey, not the destination.

Dear Adam,

Madagascar has outstanding landscapes but poor outfitters. One can hunt birds, ducks and bush pigs. Deep Sea fishing is very good.
Mada hunting
Mauritius has a territory where one can hunt a special breed of stag : Java Stag and undetermined pig.
I think one can find upland and ducks game. Deep Sea Fishing is excellent.
Maurice
