I am shocked by poachers now using cyanide to fill their pockets.
When there is crime, there are criminals. I can't refrain from thinking that the takeover of Africa by China is the main cause of ele and rhino poaching.

When I hunted in the Selous in Tanzania in 1972 the Chinese were building a railroad to connect Zambia with Dar Es Salaam. We used to drive past their work crews every day on the way back to camp from hunting.
The Tanzanian government at the time was very Marxist oriented. The railroad was constructed by means of an interest free loan of $500,000,000 from the Peoples Republic of China. They have now had forty years to consolidate their foothold.

Nothing new, Kenyatta 's regime bought and used tons of Cyanide. A family friend worked for Occidental Chemical in the 1970's. They used it in water holes to kill vultures to keep them off carcasses while government biltong collectors where working. Found out it littered the bush with Elephant carcasses as well. Win-Win.
Poisoning is much quieter than gunfire.
