Lancaster, thanks for posting.

That is a very nice cape gun. I like the Germanic engraving.

I have a copuple of Steiglede guns. They all are very high quality. I believe that Steiglede was a retailer who had his guns built by the trade.

unknown maker of an interesting combination gun 16 ga and 8x57IR, Witten excelsior is the barrel steel maker https://www.lauritz.com/en/auctions/hunt...-8x57jr/6559292

The action looks quite unique; I've never seen anything like it before. If Kuduae sees this, he might know the manufacturer.

Maybe it's picking nits but cape guns have the shotgun barrel on the right, rifle barrel on the left and are of British make.

German combination guns are as shown.

Interesting. Wonder when that started. My Husky model 20, I think it was, had the right barrel rifled(straight) and the left barrel smooth. Both chambered for 16 bore, but the right was meant for solid round ball in a brass case, the left for paper 16 bore shot loads.
This was to get around the Swede law stating only rifles could be used for ELG(moose).

I can't speak to the Husqvarna and certainly I am ignorant of Swedish game laws. I have a pre-1891 proof law Jost & Diehl combination gun in 16 X 10.5 X 47R and the shotgun barrel has straight rifling. I knew such existed but this is still the only shotgun barrel I've seen with straight rifling. Anyway, it is choked a very tight full and, Axel told me the straight rifling in shotgun barrels was a fad that came and went. I assume he meant in Germany. That's all I THINK I know about them, obviously subject to correction.

barrels with straight rifling are very rare, I have seen maybe 5 over the year from which only one was in my hands

Might I am even more picky, but my understanding of caoe guns is hey were side by side guns, one rufled barrel, one smooth bore, and used in Cape Province of Southern Africa. Mostly used by Dutch, Boer of Afrikaaner9 settlers. So definitely might not be of British manufacture. I am ignorant of any preferred barrel placing.

So by definition, a "Cape Gun" is a side by side mixed rifled and smooth barrelled gun, FROM or USED in Cape Province.

Though today, the term "Cape Gun" is often applied to any side by side mixed smooth bore and rifled bore barrelled gun. Usually of medium or larger bore rifle calibre.

Another very nice gun, Lancaster.

In 9.3x72R, making it less attractive in calibre/cartridge terms. But a real beauty nonetheless.
