Well being the gun site lurker I am, I just happen to find a C&H mauser under $2k , it just happen to be one of the lower grade ones , but still a affordable British made Mauser sporter with tons of possibilities for upgrades to a fine sporting rifle. And I secured it promptly .

Texan; A few years ago I purchased a C&H in 30-06, at a very reasonable price, practically sight unseen.
It turned out to have a 2 groove barrel which was unusual but in great condition. The stock didn't really turn my crank so I shortened up the fore-end and reshaped the cheek rest. If you go to > Mauser Photos and Archive > Page 5 > Mauser Pics. > at the top of the page you can see the end result - the first rifle with a light coloured stock. In retrospect I should have made the stock comb straight and may yet. --- John

can someone offer me an explanation for this: my local cabelas had a C&H mauser in 375 with a 26" barrel that was incredibly slim and pointed like a shotgun. it was incredibly trim in the hands and that made it quite lively. current production rifles like the winchester and the ruger and the cz feel clunky by comparison. the C&H rifle felt more vertical through the pistol grip and the forestock versus current rifles which feel more horizontal. does this make sense?
thanks.
