Wasn't it.
I was trying to work out if he was on sticks
or not but even so, he didn't waste anytime
and a damn good shot to boot.

It was a 80m shot but Buzz insisted on approaching a little bit and was adamant at my using the sticks. It's a 60m shot on sticks.The target being the size of a tennis ball, no big deal.
As for the croc it's the last day of the hunt in Mozambique. Previously I spent a week with the bows and arrows, in vain.

60m shot, off sticks, little margin for error,
heart racing !!!
Still a very good shot IMHO, not one a lot could do
taking all those factors into account (including me !).

OOOOOOOOOOOPSS
I was talking of the hippo.
The hippo was shot in the middle of the morning, this croc was
shot afterwars, at 4PM .
The shot was at 80m, the target being a ping-pong ball. No sticks. Buzz wanted my using a flimsy hanging branch that I refused. It was the last hour endeavour and it paid. Note that I was so shaken that my second shot whizzed over the croc.

Larcher, that croc shot is a pearler i.e. brilliant. I have been to Africa 5 times, the last time I was determined to shoot a big croc, we found one. What I have learnt on crocs is unless you are a marksman or VERY close you need the right shot. My biggie was in Mozambique and a 15 footer. we were about 70 yards away and I had to shoot prone with a double, he was lying away from us. I should have passed on the shot and moved around so we had a side on shot at closer range. I was too new to the game to voice an opinion so I took the shot, hit him a bit too far back, hit him in the lungs I reckon then raked forward, he was dying but not finished, we never recovered him, still guts me  The double also left a very nice scar from the scope between my eyes ! rgds

I imagine how you could have been disappointed. A 15 footer isn't that frequent, approaching him is a tough challenge. A pity you only had a double rifle. I am quite sure that with a scoped rifle, the croc hide would ornate your home. You should have been really pissed? That's the risk with the croc, any shoot out of the brain or the spine would have the croc sinking and being lost for ever. 1 cm could made all the difference.
I know what You mean with a sore shoulder when prone shooting.
The last day of the hunt prior to shooting the hippo and the croc, Buzz stopped on a flat island and tested my ability with his client 375 Blaser. Prone shooting at 100m on an empty pack of cigarettes. My shot went in the center of the pack,...........and my clavicle was toast. Buzz to be extra sure that it was not a lucky shot asked me to shoot one more..........same result.........and the gallant ultra-light 375 Sauer once again tatooed my clavicle. Not the best medicine to begin with the hunt. On the other side I was real bolstered.

I can't tell that I am an excellent shot, just often a good shot, ever more when I am determinated, what was the case the last day. In French we call it "energie du desespoir" (desparation energy) a combination of desperation and determination.

Yep, suffered from it many times, mostly in the military
when trying to pass or finish an exercise !!! LOL
