I have found a photo of the big H&H DR with its ugly beavertail forend and the Swarovski on.
Have a look at: http://www.dorleac-dorleac.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/Marc-Pe%CC%81chenart-HH-Zambie-.jpg
Nice croc also…!

Having used DR's both with Beaver tail forends and without them (ie traditional Splinter forends), sometimes, particularly on bigger bores having the extra wood to hold onto helps when shooting off hand.

Not saying it looks pretty but it does help.

That's a very nice croc.

What a great post. Beautiful DR's and some fine history and photos.

Thanks Nordmann, thanks Dorleac.

I would love to hunt a tusker like that pictured...one day.

Cheers, Chris

Joël,
Interesting. Is this the rifle that is mentioned in the Hatari Times article? I wonder, as, it seems like Marc Pechenart was not a bolt action man but preferred doubles and guns of break top design.

Cheers
Johan

Just thought I would get it out, give it a clean and let it breath some fresh air.

As it lies there in its case its strange to think that many huge African Elephant's were shot with this rifle. It's quite possible that he used this to shoot the longstanding SCI World Record Elephant plus three more in the Top Ten of the category.

Hello Nordmann,

Nice 500/465. What kind of groups have you shot with the rifle? Do you by chance have any targets you can share along with your loads? By chance is it for sale? Cash buyer.
